Ingredients

Scale

Pretzel Crust

  • 2 1/2 cups pretzels, crushed
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, melted

Chocolate-Peanut Butter Layer

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk (Eagle Brand preferred)
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9 x 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, making sure to cover the sides and cutting slits in the corners so it lays flat.
  2. Make the Pretzel Crust: Crush the pretzels using a Ziploc bag and a rolling pin or food processor. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe 4-cup measuring cup, then stir in the crushed pretzels. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan with a flat metal spatula to form an even crust.
  3. Melt Peanut Butter and Chocolate: In a small pan over low heat, combine the peanut butter, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and vanilla. Cook gently until the mixture is completely melted and smooth. Pour this melted mixture evenly over the pretzel crust and spread as needed.
  4. Add Topping Layer: In a mixing bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk with the milk chocolate chips and peanut butter chips. Stir to combine, then pour this mixture evenly over the peanut butter-chocolate layer on the crust.
  5. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes, until the edges are golden and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan for at least one hour. Use the parchment paper to lift the bars out of the pan, peel off the parchment, and cut into squares of your desired size.

Notes

  • For a twist, graham crackers can be used instead of pretzels for the crust.
  • Ensure low heat when melting chocolate and peanut butter to prevent burning.
  • Use a sturdy parchment paper to help with easy removal and clean slicing.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Allow bars to cool fully before cutting to maintain a clean slice and prevent crumbling.
