Crispy and flavorful Oven Roasted Sweet Potato Fries made with simple spices and a light coating of cornstarch for extra crunch. Perfectly baked to golden brown with a smoky paprika kick, these fries are a healthier alternative to deep-fried versions and make a great side or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Sweet Potato Fries

  • 1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Fine sea salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice: Slice the sweet potatoes into long, thin strips, about 1/4-inch wide for even cooking and crispy texture.
  2. Soak: Place the sliced fries in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Soak for at least 60 minutes or preferably overnight to remove excess starch and ensure crispiness.
  3. Preheat: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to get it ready for roasting the fries at the optimal temperature.
  4. Line: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, or use two medium baking sheets to avoid overcrowding the fries, allowing proper air circulation.
  5. Drain: Drain the fries thoroughly and spread them out on a clean towel. Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture for better roasting.
  6. Toss: Transfer the fries back to a clean, dry bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and toss until all fries are evenly coated in oil.
  7. Season: In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning mixture over the fries, then toss again to coat evenly and allow the cornstarch to absorb the oil.
  8. Spread: Arrange the fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet(s), making sure they do not overlap to ensure even roasting.
  9. Bake: Bake the fries for 15 minutes. Remove the baking sheet and flip each fry carefully with a spatula to promote even browning. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until fries are golden, crispy, and slightly browned.
  10. Season: Remove the fries from the oven and transfer the baking sheet to a cooling rack. Sprinkle with fine sea salt to taste and let the fries rest for 5 minutes to finish crisping up.
  11. Serve: Serve the oven roasted sweet potato fries warm as a delicious side dish or snack.

Notes

  • Soaking the fries removes excess starch which helps them crisp up during baking.
  • Using cornstarch helps create a light, crispy coating on the fries.
  • Do not overcrowd the baking sheet to allow even air circulation and crispiness.
  • Flipping the fries halfway through baking promotes even browning.
  • Serve immediately after resting for the best texture; leftovers can be reheated in the oven to regain crispiness.
