Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Dough & Assembly

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 8 pieces caramel candy
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Cinnamon sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Add the peeled and finely chopped apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the mixture is bubbling, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Shape the Dough: Remove the refrigerated biscuit dough from the can and separate the biscuits. Slightly stretch each biscuit, then flatten it evenly into a thin round using your fingers, rolling pin, or tortilla press. This helps the dough hold more filling and seal properly without tearing.
  3. Fill and Seal: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the cooled apple filling onto the center of each flattened biscuit. Place one piece of caramel candy on top of the filling. Carefully bring the edges up around the filling and pinch tightly to seal. Gently roll into a ball shape ensuring there are no gaps.
  4. Prepare for Baking: Place each filled dough ball seam side down into the greased baking dish. Brush the tops with melted butter to promote browning. Optionally, sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the tops for extra flavor and aroma.
  5. Bake and Serve: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes until the dough balls are golden brown. Remove carefully and transfer to a serving platter. Serve warm, optionally with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream for an indulgent finish.

Notes

  • Using refrigerated biscuit dough saves time and makes this recipe simple for beginners.
  • Ensure each dough ball is sealed tightly to prevent caramel from leaking during baking.
  • For a crunchier crust, use a lightly dusted rolling pin to flatten the dough.
  • Feel free to substitute caramel candy with caramel bits or chopped soft caramel pieces.
  • Serve these warm as they are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven.
