Garlic White Pizza Sauce Recipe

4.5 from 134 reviews

This Garlic White Pizza Sauce is a creamy, flavorful alternative to traditional red pizza sauce. Made with olive oil, garlic, herbs, and a smooth blend of flour and half & half, it provides a rich base for your favorite white pizza toppings. Easy to prepare on the stovetop, this sauce thickens to a luscious consistency perfect for spreading over pizza dough or drizzling onto flatbreads.

Ingredients

Scale

Primary Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 23 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups half & half (milk works fine, too)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: In a skillet over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil until hot but not smoking.
  2. Sauté the Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic becomes fragrant and lightly golden but not burnt.
  3. Add Flour and Seasonings: Sprinkle in 2 tablespoons of flour along with the dried oregano, ground black pepper, and salt. Whisk these together thoroughly to form a smooth paste and to cook out the raw flour taste.
  4. Incorporate Half & Half: Pour the half & half into the skillet all at once while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue cooking and stirring until the sauce becomes bubbly and thickens to your desired consistency, which usually takes about 3 minutes.

Notes

  • You can substitute whole milk for half & half for a lighter sauce, though it will be less creamy.
  • Adjust thickness by varying the amount of flour; start with 2 tablespoons and add more if needed.
  • Be careful not to burn the garlic as it will impart a bitter flavor.
  • This sauce works well not only for pizza but also as a dip or a white sauce for pasta or vegetables.
